It is due to electronic environment where information creation and dissemination is made today that a great amount of misinformation flourishes on the web. Anyone can publish their content without any editorial censorship or peer-review.
I don't believe the cause of misinformation is always intentional. The author may lack of authority on the topic but willing to share his knowledge or experience with others with no pretention as well as with no intention of disseminating misinformaiton. The only problem is often they offer little or no information on themseleves, which readers can ues critieria to evaluate the validity of given informaiotn. Even in the case of prestigious figures in certain area, if they have neglected keeping up with recent discoveries and innovations and updating their content accordingly, informaiton on the webpage or site is highly likely to contain misinformaiton, at least outdated information.
Despite the sheer amount of informaiton and misinformaiton on the Web, I am positive that people today have become more than ever aware of issues with misinformaiotn on the Web. We have become more sophisticated in information evaluation. It is by trial and error that most people experience and learn how tricky and treacherous it is to navigate in the unchartered Web and get the destination and find what they are looking for.
